MURDER WITHOUT A BODY ... What happened at night in the Walshe family home?
On the morning of January 1, 2023, 39-year-old real estate agent and mother of three Anna Walsh vanished without a trace from her home in Cohasset, Massachusetts. Her husband, Brian Walsh, initially claimed she had left for Washington DC due to a work emergency. However, the police investigation uncovered a chain of inconsistencies:
- No evidence of travel: Anna's name is not on any passenger lists, no taxi or Uber rides were recorded, and her credit cards show no activity.
- Brian under house arrest: He was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet due to a fraud conviction in an art deal.
- Incriminating purchases: On January 1, Brian bought cleaning supplies, a protective suit, a tarp, a saw, hydrogen peroxide, and ammonia – all items that could be used to dispose of evidence of a crime.
- Evidence in the house and car: Bloodstains were found in the basement and trunk of Brian's Volvo.
- Trash bags with evidence: Bags recovered from a waste facility contained Anna's blood, her DNA, a hatchet, a saw, tape, and parts of a white protective suit.
- Google searches: Using his six-year-old son's iPad, after Anna's disappearance, Brian searched for phrases like: "How long does it take for a body to start smelling?", "10 ways to get rid of a dead body", and "What does formaldehyde do?".
- Motive: The marriage was strained, Anna was having an affair, and Brian was under pressure from impending divorce proceedings and financial difficulties (a life insurance policy worth $2.7 million).
Brian Walsh was arrested on January 8, 2023, and charged on January 17 with first-degree murder and unlawful disposal of a body. He pleaded "not guilty" to murder but guilty to misleading the investigation. The defense argued that Anna died suddenly in her sleep, and Brian panicked. The jury rejected this argument and on December 15, 2025, found him guilty of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Anna's body was never found, and the exact cause of death remains unknown. The couple's three children were initially taken into custody by child protective services; their current whereabouts are kept confidential for their protection.
