📈 Precious Metals Market: Silver Surprises, Gold Struggles
- Silver had a strong day: breakout above $81.50 (approx. €74.50) with significant momentum. Driven by hedge funds and ETF purchases due to technical chart signals.
- Gold remains weaker, stuck around $4,850 (approx. €4,440). A sustainable breakout above this level is needed to target $5,100 (approx. €4,670).
- Risk note: India's PM Modi called on citizens to avoid buying gold for one year to support the rupee. Short-term impact possible, but gold is culturally deeply rooted; no long-term effect expected.
Barrick Gold
- Earnings beat expectations strongly: costs, production, and free cash flow were solid, over 700,000 ounces produced.
- Stock surged +8%, now testing $50 (approx. €45.80). Chart looks interesting again.
B2Gold
- After a previous false breakout, now back above $5 (approx. €4.58). Potential towards $6 (approx. €5.50), but the stock has deceived before. ⚠️ Risk warning (author holds shares).
Hecla Mining
- Breakout above $20 (approx. €18.30) achieved. Technical buy signal with a tight stop.
- Surprise: The old Midas/Hollister project to be revived. Metallurgically challenging (refractory ore), but Hecla has narrow-vein expertise. Could use i80's autoclave? Speculative.
Cameco (Uranium)
- Negative: Flooding in Saskatchewan destroyed a bridge supporting supply lines for the McArthur River mine. Production suspended, guidance at risk.
- Stock still rose on a rumor that the US and Israel seized enriched uranium from Iran. Author dismisses this – additional supply would be negative.
PLS Group
- Largest hard-rock lithium producer (>10% market share). Stock at all-time high despite lithium prices at $20,000/t (2022: $80,000/t).
- Drivers: Rising lithium carbonate prices in China and the P2000 expansion aiming to make it the world's largest mine.
Patriot Metals (PMET)
- Breakout to the upside. Discovered a cesium resource – potentially cost-reducing, but cesium market is tiny.
- Advanced stage (PEA, resource). Author holds shares.
LiFT Power
- Accelerated strategy: Acquisition of Wins in Australia secured an option on a processing plant from a former diamond mine – dramatically lowering initial capex.
- Major shareholder Agnico Eagle provides deep Canadian mining expertise.
- Two projects: Quebec (fast permitting possible) and Yellowknife (still 2 years for permitting).
- Conclusion: Exciting story that could overtake PMET. Author also holds LiFT.
