Eureka W65 Casa tested: Speed, Consistency, Taste
The Eureka W65 Casa is a grind-by-weight grinder with 65mm burrs, priced around €1000. It promises speed and quality – but is it for home (Casa) or commercial use?
Build and Specs- Solid construction, 10 kg weight, dimensions: 43 cm high, 19 cm deep, 18 cm wide.
- Atom burr set (65 mm), 1350 RPM, 300 W motor.
- Fast: 8–10 seconds for 18 grams (depending on coffee).
- Permanent retention (0.9 g) is low, temporary retention (18.4 g) is huge – almost a double espresso remains after each grind.
- For cafés with frequent use it's no problem, for home stale coffee degrades taste.
- Manufacturer rates it for max 1 kg/day – enough for small cafés; with two grinders even 2 kg possible.
- Narrow main peak (precise extraction) but many fines (>40%) – unusual for Eureka.
- Result: sweet espresso with heavy body, but less clarity and complexity.
- Best suited for medium to dark roasts (e.g., Mano, Apas, Compadre). Very dark roasts risk bitterness.
- Quiet: under 80 dB. Cool: stays below 30°C even under heavy load – no heat affecting taste.
- Grind-by-Weight: standard deviation 0.21 g (target 18 g) – not super precise, but huge advantage in café workflow when adjusting grind size without re-dosing.
- Automatically compensates for humidity and temperature changes.
- Grind adjustment wheel is too small (known Eureka flaw). Portafilter holder is well-made but the stop position is slightly off (coffee falls forward). Cleaning is tricky.
- Verdict: Excellent value for small to medium cafés and catering. Not recommended for home use – unless you drink over 500 g per day.
